 My Own Life Focus
Note: This is the first volume of the "My Own Life" series. While these three volumes make up a "system" of life management, each one can be used independently of the others. See the other volumes, My Own Life Map and My Own Life Time below.

Most people start out their adult lives with clarity of purpose and a sincere mission and vision for their future. In short, they set out to change the world.

But something happens along the way. We get bogged down with the details of life, the need to "pay the bills," and the hustle and bustle that threatens to sweep us away and steal our joy.

Life-focusing can be the one thing that can change all that. By stepping back and looking at our life anew, we can literally get back that drive and vision of our youth, and make a real impact for good. Contentment, a sense of significance, and true joy can be ours if we are willing to do the hard work of life-focusing. That's where this book, My Own Life Focus, comes in.

How to Lead Someone to Christ
From the Foreword....This book, as its title forthrightly asserts, is a manual, a blueprint based on experience as well as scholarship, a how-to book for all who take to heart Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:9-20).  It is a book about evangelism for all Christians whom the Holy Spirit moves to be evangelists, namely, all Christians.

Dr. Gregory Tyree has written a book that is exhaustive in its treatment of "soulwinning".  He leaves no aspect of evangelism unexplored and his breadth of learning is matched by his own rich experiences as a pastor of four churches.  I happen to know first-hand about Dr. Tyree's soulwinning abilities because over a two-month period he taught. He comforted, he counseled, he confounded, and, finally, he led me to trust Christ as my personal Lord and Savior.  He led me to a point where the Holy Spirit could pry open my hardened, secular heart and regenerate my lost soul.

Forward-Focused Counseling and Coaching
This book is about two methods of helping people: counseling and coaching. Unfortunately, many pastors and leaders today use these terms interchangeably, but the two approaches are quite different.

Counseling, by its very nature, is past-focused. Who hasn’t seen the caricature of some exhausted patient lying on a sofa in a therapist’s office? “Tell me about your relationship with your mother,” the therapist insists. Pastors, counselors, social workers, and just about everyone who helps others professionally are trained by the counseling model. It is tiresome and often burdensome. Counseling starts with the past, and eventually moves a person forward.

Coaching, on the other hand, is future-focused. It is for the relatively emotionally healthy person who simply needs some help overcoming an obstacle, solving a problem, or strategically mapping out their future (life-focusing). Coaching starts with the present and moves a person forward.

The Master's Peace
From the Foreword... Some churches struggle with attacks from without, while others must deal with threats from within. Dr. Greg Tyree's book is a welcome contribution to this subject, because conflict often hinders churches from reaching their glorious potential.

Those who observe churches point to a number of issues that threaten their existence. Some suggest the main threat is materialism, while others blame secularism. Still others tell us that churches are in jeopardy because of doctrinal drift. I contend that churches are frequently endangered because those who lead can’t handle conflict efficiently.

Greg does not direct others while sitting in a command center far from the battlefield. He labors in the turbulent world of turning churches around. This gives his book an air of authenticity. He knows how to grow healthy churches and understands that handling conflict is one of the keys. As you read his book, you will discover what prevents many churches from reaching their God-given potential. You will learn how to turn negative situations into opportunities to glorify God.

Helping Your Church Discover Its Next Pastor
Consisting of original material and adapted material going back as far as 40 years (which I compiled and edited), this book is about the pastoral discovery process. Some call it the pastoral search process, but I prefer the word discovery, because God already has a man for your church; you just need to discover who he is! The discovery of America, the discovery of penicillin, the discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls; these all happened by “accident,” but God knew about these all along. He also knows who your next pastor is, and has already prepared him for your church! Now that’s exciting!

This proactive approach is intended to be encouraging, insightful, and intentional! The pastoral discovery process is an exciting task, but it is not an easy endeavor. As you embark on this adventure with God, be prepared to work!

Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts
You need to think of this book as an assessment tool or a how-to manual. It is not your typical reading material, but rather it is a how-to book for those who want to discover, understand, and use their spiritual gifts for the glory of God and the building up of the church.

Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts was originally published as in 1998 and 2004 as the Spiritual Gifts Indicator. Because of helpful feedback from some readers of the first and second editions, it has been updated and revised, and hopefully improved.

I have written this work with the assumption that you are familiar with the concept of Spiritual Gifts in the New Testament, and that you believe that God empowers believers with various gifts for the glory of God and the good of the church. This book will serve as an effective tool to help you understand the spiritual gifts, identify (discover) your own spiritual gifts, and help you to learn how to use these gifts for their intended purpose.

What the Bible Really Says about Baptism
From the Foreword... Greg Tyree has thoughtfully, carefully, and vigorously done just that in this wonderful little book, “What the Bible REALLY Says about Baptism.

You will certainly appreciate his candid writing accompanied by his careful style that will lead any thinking Christian who has yet to be baptized to say “What hinders me from being baptized?”  Dr. Tyree clearly sets forth the Biblical foundation for the historic doctrine of believer’s baptism by immersion.  Hours of research and Biblical study have once again paid off for all of us who will read and learn from the truth contained in this book.  His years of pastoral experience as well as hours of laborious preparation provide a vast pool of knowledge from which to pull.  But more than that, this man loves God and His inspired Word—that alone infinitely qualifies Dr. Tyree to write this book.

In a day and age when the Church is suffering from “truth deficit” we are grateful for men like Greg Tyree who unashamedly stand on the solid rock of God’s truth as revealed to us in the Scriptures.  This is a work that ought to be read carefully and repeatedly with Bible in hand!  It is my pleasure to recommend What the Bible REALLY Says about Baptism for your reading, study, encouragement, and challenge.

Does It Really Matter Which Bible I Use?
This book will convey that all Bibles are not the same. I will contend that only minutiae of translations should be labeled as the “true Word of God.” While I am not a “King James Only” advocate in the traditional sense, I will set forth that the King James “family” of translations are the best translations because they are the only ones that conform to the Majority Text (to be explained in the book). As a whole, the newer translations are replete with deletions, misrepresentations, and doctrinal biases. Additionally, it will be seen that when one starts with a faulty foundation (wrong Hebrew and Greek texts), they end up with a straw house (poor translation) in which no true believer can thrive and grow.

What the Bible Really Says about Wine
I truly believe with great conviction that the Bible teaches that Christians of all dispensations should avoid using alcohol as a beverage. Before you judge this conclusion, read the book. I only ask that you come to the topic with an open mind, as I did. You may be surprised what God will do in your heart if you trust totally in what He has to say.

While I will take a strong and unambiguous stand in this book against alcoholic beverages in all forms, I want to make it perfectly clear that I write from love and concern, not from self-righteousness and arrogance. I truly believe that this is a serious matter. I want my detractors to know that I love them, regardless of their conclusions.

This book is written with Christians in mind. While I would love to see this book influence any reader to give up the bottle (or the glass), I especially hope and pray that Bible-believing Christians will rise to a higher standard of holiness, and have a greater impact for Christ, as well as a more sober, fulfilling life.

I challenge you to let Jesus be to you what wine is to too many; the gladness of your heart. May God bless you as you take this journey with me.

One Nation Under God
Though originally composed in 1842, The Pledge of Allegiance did not include the words “under God” until 1954. Acting with the blessing of President Eisenhower, on February 8, 1954, Rep. Charles Oakman (R- Mich.), introduced a bill to amend the pledge with the added words. Congress passed the necessary legislation and Eisenhower signed the bill into law on Flag Day, June 14, 1954. Eisenhower stated "From this day forward, the millions of our school children will daily proclaim in every city and town, every village and rural school house, the dedication of our nation and our people to the Almighty. ... In this way we are reaffirming the transcendence of religious faith in America's heritage and future; in this way we shall constantly strengthen those spiritual weapons which forever will be our country's most powerful resource, in peace or in war.”

Since then, the constitutionality of these words in our nation’s pledge has been challenged, all the way up to the Supreme Court, but so far these words remain in our most beloved patriotic mantra.

Whether or not America is, was, or ever has been a Christian nation will continue to be debated. However, if the words and writings of our founding fathers, as well as our nation’s leaders through the twentieth century have any bearing on the debate, no open-minded and sane person can maintain with integrity the belief that our nation was not founded on Christian values, theology, and principles.

This little volume presents ample evidence of our Christian heritage. May it be a blessing to believers, and a challenge to skeptics to lighten up; God is in control, and He loves us all.

Understanding Your Personality
Every person is created uniquely. We may call it DNA or whatever we like, but we know that God has deliberately designed each of us in a specific way and for a specific purpose. Each of us has a distinctive combination of abilities, intellect, and personality characteristics. While we are born with certain personality characteristics, our personality is developed over our lifetimes. In addition, by God’s grace, we can change, or at least control, the negative aspects of our personalities. This indicator is designed to familiarize and orientate one with his/her personality type. This book has been developed based on the assumption that the user is somewhat familiar with the personality type concept.

Redeeming the Time
Note: This book is an adaptation (specifically for pastors) of the book directly below, My Own Life Time. If you already have My Own Life Time, this book is not necessary. However, if you are collecting the entire My Own Life Series, and you are a pastor, this is the best of the two volumes to have.

We live in an age of lightning-fast changes and unprecendented demographic and social shifts. Technology, such as smart phones and I-Pads and a multiplicity of apps are supposed to save us time, yet it seems that time is slipping through our fingers like sand in the hourglass. The busy pastor today finds himself struggling to get everything done, and more and more the tyranny of the urgent overcomes the execution of the important. Dr. Greg Tyree offers some  practical and immediately useful ideas and tools to help pastors "redeem the time."

My Own Life Time
Note: This is the third and final volume of the "My Own Life" series. While these three volumes make up a "system" of life management, each one can be used independently of the others. See the other volumes, My Own Life Focus and My Own Life Map above.

One of the key difficulties that otherwise successful people face is time-management. The “tyranny of the urgent” clouds their judgment and eats away their time, leaving little time and energy to focus on the important (which is not always “urgent”). The application of the principles in this book will help you reclaim your time and better manage your home, career and personal life.

I believe that poor time-management (I prefer to call it life-management) is a key obstacle to success and happiness in the many people’s lives. In this book I tackle four major points: 1) reasons many people are poor time-managers; 2) some time wasters, that if identified and overcome can contribute to success; 3) a few tips for saving time; and 4) some time-management tools. The ultimate outcome of good time-management is more effective and enjoyable life and career.

My Own Life Map
Note: This is the second volume of the "My Own Life" series. While these three volumes make up a "system" of life management, each one can be used independently of the others. See the other volumes, My Own Life Focus and My Own Life Time above.

Coming to terms with and deciding on your final destination is not practical without some kind of map to direct your journey. It is one thing to know that you want to go from New York to San Francisco; it is quite another to know how to get there. Dr. Greg Tyree's "My Own Life Map" does just that. Like the first book, "My Own Life Focus" the title is self-descriptive. While "My Own Life Focus" helps you focus your life for more significant success, "My Own Life Map" helps you map-out your journey which began with life-focusing. Think of this current stage as life-mapping.

God Can Turn Your Church Around
The phrase Turnaround Church, a term coined and made well-known by George Barna is a popular and, to some degree, trendy phrase, at least in the 1990s and early 2000s. The concept behind the word still persists, as some call such churches Refocus churches; others call them Replants; still others call them Re-contextualized churches. Turnaround Churches are also known as “break-out churches,” “fresh start churches,” “re-start” or “replant churches”.

Whatever term one chooses, be assured that such churches are many, and will continue to increase in number, unless pastors, church consultants, denominational leaders, lay-leaders, and congregations take proactive steps to curb the trend.

The chapters making up this book set forth a linear approach to the turnaround-church process. Beginning with the pre-turnaround state, and culminating with processes that are helpful after the turnaround experiment is completed. I propose to set forth a working plan for pastors and churches embarking on the turnaround-church journey.

Your marriage is your most vital relationship, yet there are so many challenges and obstacles that seem to be pounding at your door. Operation: Ordination
(A Manual for Ordaining Men to the Christian Ministry)

This resource has been developed to help busy pastors who must undergo ordination themselves or oversee the ordination of an associate, assistant, or other minister of the Gospel. It is designed with Baptist churches in mind, but may be readily adapted for use in “baptistic” churches or other congregationally ruled churches, as well as creatively altered to fit many nondenominational and ecclesiastical settings (denominations will have their own pre-established protocol for ordination).

The resource is most helpful when used “as is,” but that will obviously be up to the pastor using it. This resource is not an attempt to diminish church autonomy, nor is it an attempt to serve as a primer for an ordination “policy manual.” It is simply to serve as a compilation of helpful ideas that will assist one in executing the necessary steps of the ordination process. As a resource, the Operation: Ordination will provide pastors with a “guideline” (from beginning to end) for the ordination of prospective candidates for ministry.

Passion-Driven Giving
"Passion-Driven Giving" is a campaign built around the concept of "Stewardship Month." Dr. Greg Tyree, PhD, has used this model personally in four churches for two and a half decades, and it works. It has also been tested in a several other churches across a five-state footprint. Since Greg deals extensively and meaningfully with stewardship for four or five weeks out of the year, he does not have to constantly deal with "money" from the pulpit all the time.
The key to its success, like most programs and campaigns, is its application.  One of the most important factors about "Passion-Driven Giving" is that it involves everyone! Sunday School teachers, children, lay people, leaders, staff; everyone gets to be in on the action! If the resource is used well, it will work.
Be passion driven. Be purpose-driven. Watch your ministry grow through "Passion-Driven Giving."

Growing in God's Word
This book grew out of a practical need of the author as a pastor and teacher. Over the years, many people have sought a simple resource that would help them understand the basics of Christianity, but Dr. Greg Tyree has found the available materials to be either too complex and cumbersome, or too elementary and shallow. Additionally, it is almost virtually impossible to find a book that presents a Baptist view that is not legalistic and controversial. “Growing in God’s Word” answers these challenges with an insightful and useful work that puts the deeper teachings of Christianity on the lower shelf for all to benefit from.

In My Own Words
Like several of my books, I imagine that this one will be a “living volume,” meaning that I am likely to revise it on a fairly regular basis going forward. Between poems for sermons, funerals, and weddings, and worship songs for church, I tend to write at least eight or ten works or more a year. I also blog on a fairly regular basis, and journal sporadically, adding significantly to the total of original expressions penned. You will find a little of all of these forms here.

The works in this book cover about four and a half decades, and demonstrate the imagination that God has instilled in me. While I claim to be no poet or composer, I do believe that many of these entries were given to me by God to bless others. The remaining selections are my own fault. You are left to figure which is which.

In many cases I offer a brief introduction to the quip. In other cases I do not, as their contexts are more self-evident or explaining it would ruin your experience of it. Since many of the entries are actually lyrics to songs, and not poetry in the strictest sense, a brief explanation will help you interpret it and better enjoy it.

Why I Still Do Altar Calls
For centuries Baptists and many other evangelicals have used the "altar call" as a means to challenge people to respond the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Billy Graham has used this method to call over 200 million people to the Savior. Yet, today the public invitation is being attacked from many fronts, especially Reformed churches and church leaders who adhere to Calvinism and Hyper-Calvinism.

Dr. Greg Tyree takes a pastoral approach, rather than a strictly scholarly one, to defend the thesis that the altar call is not only historically relevant, but is Biblical and appropriate when used ethically and Scripturally.

If seeing people come to Christ in public meetings is important to you, tis book will both encourage you and challenge you.

What the Bible really Says about Communion
Communion, or "The Lord's Supper," is one of the most cherished and time-honored practices of the local, New Testament church. But to many Christians, the purpose and meaning of the ordinance is a mystery. Some believe that the "Eucharist" imparts saving grace. Others believe that communion is right of all believers, including the non-baptized. Some rarely if ever participate in the most sacred of rituals.

Dr. Greg Tyree, in this fifth volume of the "What the Bible Really Says" series, sets forth a Biblical and practical approach to this second of two church ordinances (the first being baptism).  If you care about what the Bible says about communion, and you desire to participate in the Lord's Supper as God intends, this book is sure you to be a blessing.

Preaching the Baptist Distinctives
There is strong historical evidence that Baptists are unique among the non-Catholic faith traditions. Just as Baptists are unique in Church history, what we believe is also distinctive from other denominations. Technically, there is no Baptist “denomination”. Denominations are centrally governed, and Baptist churches are autonomous. Even Baptist affiliations, fellowships, and associations, like the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), which says of itself that it is the largest “Protestant denomination,” are not truly denominations in the same sense that the Presbyterians, Methodists, and Lutherans are. These unique doctrines and principles, though shared by other evangelicals, are often referred to as “The Baptist Distinctives”.

The main reason I have written this series of sermons on the Baptist Distinctives is that many Baptists have lost sight of their roots, and even many Baptist pastors have failed to see the relevance of this rich heritage. Therefore, I hope that pastors and teachers will find this to be a good resource to help them reinforce or reintroduce the Baptist Distinctives to their congregations. A book based on this series, titled What Baptists Believe, is forthcoming, and is written with the Baptist layperson in mind.
It is my prayer that these sermons will be a blessing to you and your congregation. Please use them for the glory of God. May God bless you as you “preach the Word!”

Preaching the Rapture
With the exception of a few ultra-conservative churches, a handful of websites, and some modestly populated Facebook communities, the “Pre-Trib, “Pre-Mill” view of eschatology has become a peculiar theological pillar on the vast evangelical landscape. While many pastors, especially those over forty, still believe in this brand of theology, very few preach about it. It has almost become an embarrassment for some. In some cases, this is for good reason.

Pre-Millennialism has often been presented in the Christian and secular media as a caricature. Slick-haired and gaudily-bejeweled televangelists dominate the airwaves, referring to their nine-foot long prophecy charts and speculating about who the antichrist is. Making even the most mundane and trivial event a major episode in the prophetic countdown, these self-proclaimed prophets identify dates for Christ’s return, and virtually set their watches by their overly-detailed timelines.

But if the Bible does teach the Pre-Tribulational, Pre-Millennial return of Christ, we must preach it. If Dispensational theology is Biblical, then it matters, and if it matters, we must teach it. That is why I wrote this series of sermons on the Rapture of the church.

Using these sermons as a template, you can build on them and really develop a platform from which to teach your congregation the vital truths of end-times prophesy. I believe that you will find these messages thorough, relevant, and interesting; your people will, too.

So as we look for that “blessed hope” in Christ’s return, Biblical teaching on the imminent return of our Savior will move our people toward a holier life, and amplify their aware of and concern for the state of those without Christ. Teaching on this exciting future event will actually make a positive impact in the here-and-now.

Preaching the Cross and the Resurrection
The cross of Christ is the very pinacle of the Christian faith. Without the cross there is no salvation, and without salvation, there is no hope. The world finds the bloodied cross and the mangled flesh of a Savior to be offensive, and even foolish. But its is the stark reality of Christ's suffering that paves the way for the forgiveness of sins and the prospect of eternal life,

And yet, as powerful as the crosswork of Christ is, it would be meaningless without the literal resurrection of Jesus. It is His bodily, physical, and literal resurrection that sets Christianity apart from all the world's many other religions. While billions look to lifeless and powerless gods and systems of religion to merit eternal life, or nervana, or Shangrala, only those who place their sincere faith in the Son of God Who died and was raised from the dead for our sins will experience eternity in heaven, as well as victory over sin in the here-and-now.

This collection of sermons presents several series that will help the busy pastor prepare and deliver life-changing messages that point people to the cross and the empty tomb.

Christ's Church Aflame! (Commentary on Acts: Volume One)
Christ’s Church Aflame! Homiletical Commentary on the Book of Acts is not your typical Bible commentary. It is actually an extensive expository sermon series on Acts. A preacher or teacher could use this book “as is” to preach or teach through the Book of Acts, or he can use the many comments, researched topics, illustrations, and outlines as a catalyst for his own messages. I have written this series (which will be three or four volumes when completed) as a resource to help busy pastors and teachers in their endeavor to feed their flocks, classes, or study groups.

It is my belief that the Book of Acts is an essential history of the early church, and is of paramount importance to the congregation that desires to function as God intended a New Testament church to. While not all of what is in Acts is prescriptive (meaning that God does not intend for every action or concept to be implemented in today’s church), all of its content is descriptive, meaning that it describes to us what the early church was really like, what it faced, and how it responded to its culture and times. May God bless you in your intensive study of this wonderful Biblical book.

The Power of a Positive Attitude
Your attitude affects your thinking, your actions, your feelings, and your relationships. And though your attitude is comprehensive in its impact on every part of your life, it is something that you choose, and therefore, can control.

If you are willing to take responsibility for your own attitude, and will honestly assess, evaluate, and adjust it as necessary to be a contented, peaceful, and serving individual, this book might actually help you change your life.

As with any book or idea, the effect that this volume will have on your life will be directly proportionate to the effort and attitude by which you approach it. Dive in, and dive in deep! Be willing to try new things and accept new ideas. Learn for yourself that, as corny as it sounds, “Your altitude is determined by your attitude!”

The Attitude Type Test
This assessment is taken from my book, The Power of a Positive Attitude. It is best used in conjunction with the book, but if you have a good understanding of the concepts about attitude, you may benefit from this as a stand-alone resource. You probably want to know the answer to the question, “How can I change my attitude?” Put another way, how can you transform a negative attitude into a positive one? There are essentially five things you need to do to have an “attitude adjustment.”

1. Take the Attitude Test
2. Determine Your Attitude Type
3. Determine Where You want to Go
4. Choose to Go There
5. Figure Out How to Get There

The Power of a Positive Attitude: Workbook (Companion to the Audio Book)
If you purchased or otherwise have the audio version (CD or MP3 download) of my book, The Power of a Positive Attitude (see below), you are aware that I excluded the application sections and the Attitude Type Test. This workbook serves as your companion to the audio book.
As I produced the audio book, I assumed that the typical listener will listen to the book while driving, walking, jogging, or otherwise multitasking. As such, the application sections and the Attitude Type test are distractions to the flow of the book. That being said, I must emphasize that the book is much more effective when the application sections are completed and applied, and when you have taken and understand the Attitude Type test.
It is my prayer that this resource, in conjunction with you listening to The Power of a Positive Attitude audio book, is a powerful tool for you to put great ideas into effective action!

The Seven Best Decisions You May Ever Make

Life is a series of decisions, a cascade of choices culminating in what becomes our life; the proverbial bed which we have made and now must lie in. I have often said to my congregations, “Your life is the sum total of your choices up to this very moment.” If I am correct, there are a couple of sobering thoughts that jump out directly in our faces.

First, if my life is indeed the sum total of my choices, that means that the life that I now live is entirely my own doing.

The second thought that jumps out at us is if life is the sum total of my choices, then I have the capacity to change my life! Yes! Now you are on the right track! We are the masters of our own destiny. I do not have to stay in a cycle of dysfunction, poverty, or despair. I can choose to overcome my obstacles, improve my state, or change my direction.

Soar High!
Though our Creator has made us to soar above life’s circumstances, enabling us to have a perspective that engenders success, contentment, and joy, so many of us are content to hover near the ground and merely get by, accepting the status quo as our lot in life. This collection of tidbits of wisdom and wit is intended to encourage you and help you to soar high. Originally serving as posts on Facebook and Twitter, I call these little statements Gregisms.  They are merely my opinions, thoughts, feelings, convictions, perceptions, and hopes. Most are brief, though there is the occasional wordy one, and most are serious, though you will stumble upon humorous ones from time to time.

Preaching Christmas: Volume One

One of the preacher's most difficult tasks is to bring new and refreshing ideas to the topic of Christmas, year after year, season after season. While the age-old story of the Nativity of Christ never gets old, our familiarity with it can often cause us to miss the point, having become desensitized by its repetition. Using the Gospels, several popular Christmas movies, and Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” this collection of sermons and outlines provides the busy pastor with new material to communicate and ageless message.

Fifty Ways to Love Your Pastor
The ecclesiastical landscape has changed drastically since I first wrote this booklet in 1998. While the Christian popular culture still idolizes celebrity pastors, and throngs of people are enamored by the neon lights of the megachurch, the typical pastor on the front lines of ministry no longer holds the esteem of the general population like he once did. Add to this shift in attitude the fact that a growing number of pastors are bi-vocational, working a “secular” job in addition to leading a church, it is no wonder that today’s pastor is stretched beyond reason, often  resulting in burnout, disillusionment, and a sense of abandonment. I am currently a bi-vocational pastor myself, leading a very small congregation I founded in 2005. But I wrote this booklet when I was a fulltime pastor, and have chosen to retain that sense throughout this booklet. Also, I am a very blessed pastor. Each of my previous congregations treated me well, and my current flock is a joy to serve. It is my prayer that this work will help other Christians treat their pastor as well as my churches have treated me.

The GracePointe Story
The first ten years of the GracePointe journey has been an exciting and interesting ride, even if spotted with the occasional tragedy or setback. As with any adventurous journey, there have been obstacles and roadblocks, mountains and valleys, detours and stretches of construction, but through it all we have accomplished what many new churches don't; we have made it to our tenth year! And that is exactly what this book is about; a brief history of our brief history. I have devoted the lion's share of this story to the first five years, as those were our formative years, taking us from infancy to childhood. Using the circle of life as a metaphor, I believe that GracePointe is still in its youth, and therefore has a long way to go. While many exciting things have happened in the last four or five years, and several great families have joined our church, it is the first five years that defined us, shaped us, and positioned us to become the church we are today. It is my prayer that this book will become a treasure that you cherish for years to come, and if the Lord tarries and if we stay faithful, may we look forward to the next part of our story when we celebrated twenty years in the year 2025. Wow; that thought even scares me a little, but in a good way. May God bless you as you follow Him.

Balance
In the real world of hard knocks, finding and retaining the coveted symmetry that serves to bring our lives into balance is all but the illusive dream of fools. Work, marriage, children, finances, health, worship, volunteerism, relaxation; all these forces struggle to be our life’s priority. The bad news is that the lack of balance leaves us feeling frustrated and unfulfilled. No matter how much we accomplish or achieve, our lives lack peace, contentment, and the calm that our soul thirsts for. The good news is that a life of balance is attainable, and there is no mystic path to follow or enigmatic riddle to figure out in order to have it. A balanced life is within your grasp.

Reviews of Greg's Books

Helpful, Practical, Easy-to-Follow Steps that Allow Anyone to Cultivate Balance in Their Lives

First of all, Gregory is a really good writer. His writing style is friendly, and easy to follow, and makes you want to continue reading. He isn’t overly technical, nor is he too “wordy”. He says what he needs to say and he moves on. This is a quality that I wish more writers possessed.

Secondly, Tyree’s illustrations are helpful, clear, and serve to hammer his points home. While I usually find charts distracting, and even at times annoying, the charts in this book I found quite useful. Even his self-assessment tools are extremely helpful, not only to help make his points, but also to make you think about the areas of your life that you may be struggling.

Most important of all, this book is truly a beneficial book. While written from the perspective of a Christian and a Pastor, anyone can be helped by reading this book. Whether most of us realize it or not, there are areas in all of our lives in which we struggle in, or are less successful than we are in others. Gregory does a great job of helping us pin-point those areas without coming off “preachy” or overly critical. In fact, he sees himself as a “fellow struggler”, which is in some ways a quite reassuring.

I personally am very glad I ventured outside of my normal reading habits and gave Balance a read. I’m confident that Gregory has given me many helpful, practical, and easy to follow steps that will allow me to begin to cultivate balance in my life in a way that I’ve not done in the past. I pray that as I continue to take these steps, and as the grace of God continues to work in my life and ministry, that I will become a better husband, father, pastor, and friend. I believe that this book is certainly a tool that will aid me in this process.

Thank You for This Treasure

Referring to Preaching Christmas: This collection of Christmas messages are going to bless so many people. Brother Greg's writing style blends and conveys deep spiritual truths with practical life applications. I look forward to sharing his messages with my church family this Christmas Season as we worship Jesus Christ.

And to the author, thank you Brother for sharing this wonderful treasure with us.

Excellent Sermon Outlines

With Preaching the Baptist Distinctives, Brother Tyree has prepared excellent outlines for your use to immerse people in what it means and always has meant to be called a Baptist. It's a timely preaching topic because many Baptist and non-Baptist alike today, do not fully understand what it means to be Baptist.

Pastor Jeffery Knight

Excellent Resource!

Referring to Altar Calls: Why I Still Do Them: I never would have imagined you could write an entire book on the subject of altar calls but Gregory Tyree has done just that, and with good reason. There is a lot of confusion and debate about the validity and "biblical-ness" of altar calls and Tyree respectfully and intelligently addresses all the common objections to them. He makes it clear that most of these objections are actually -- whether those objecting realize it or not -- against the abuse or misuse of altar calls and not the invitations themselves. He also explains what altar calls really are (or should be) and supports his arguments with strong biblical and historical examples and guidelines. A lot of study and research has gone into this book!

I think this is an excellent resource for pastors and churches and for anyone who has strong feelings on the topic, whether those feeling are for or against altar calls.

Oh, What a Change in My Life Upon Reading The Power of a Positive Attitude

The Power of a Positive Attitude brought me out of a downward state to an uplifting state teaching me to look to God when an obstacle gets in the way of making me not have a not so good of a day. My thinking has changed about how I approach things in life upon reading this book. I have had the courage to try things that I have been reluctant to do in the past. Sometimes it is just the little things you say to a person that will help their attitude change from bad to good. Having a positive attitude reflects how we treat people and you don't want to say something to a person that is just going to put them down and not make them feel good as God would not want us to hurt anyone. Having a positive attitude is a choice you have to make for your own happiness and God wants us to be happy. This book help you to think before you act and not to see who you can blame for things. This book will take a person's negative attitude and guide them to step on how to come out being a positive person even if they do not know how to go in that direction. I am changed, a new person and uplifted from reading this book and I certainly want that for everyone upon this Earth to enjoy life and be thankful for what they have as we are never promised tomorrow.

A Transparent Author Speaks

The Power of a Positive Attitude is a very easy read by a transparent author who speaks from personal experience about how your outlook deeply affects your outcome. Its not a health and wealth "doctrine" book. You would be wise to give this one a shot.

Well-Organized and Easy to Adapt

Pastor Tyree has done us a service with the publication of Preaching the Baptist Distinctives. Some will want to revise slightly, because personal illustrations are usually better. I am grateful for the sermon notes, and even more for the outlines designed for note-taking.

A Good Read

Discovering Your Spiritual Gifts is a good read and brought new and enlightening information that is useful for study class. It also has the questionnaires to help guide new Christians into understanding their spiritual gifts.

Light Reading with a Twist

If you want to relax and relate, In My Own Words is a good book to do that with. The stories and other writings are things that most of us can relate to. Yet, it is entertaining and funny. It's a book you can leave on your coffee table and share with others. I laughed a lot!

A User's Manual for Life

For all of us who have ever lamented that there is no such thing as a "user's manual" for life itself, we can stop lamenting: Dr. Greg Tyree, noted author of several other highly respected faith-based books, has now produced such a user's manual for us, in the form of MY OWN LIFE FOCUS: FOCUSING YOUR LIFE FOR GREATER SUCCESS.

The book is based on the premise that most of us in young adulthood set out in life, with passion and vision, intending to make a positive contribution to humankind ... but something happens along the way: "We get bogged down with the details of life, the need to 'pay the bills'" (11).

The author proposes that we regain our energy and sense of purpose, through an innovative process he terms "life-focusing."

Dr. Tyree is the type of writer who doesn't just talk the talk but also walks the walk. With some prompting and support from his wife, he reveals, he turned his own life around, by regaining his sense of mission and purpose, founding a small congregation that quickly grew to 150 members, leading the pastor to quit his day job, having found his niche, living in a state of joy and contentment.

The author candidly admits to his own failings (trying to be good at too many things at once), showing us exactly how the revelation led him to turn his life around. His paradigm or model for living involves five specific stages and 11 particular steps, all of which are clearly laid out and delineated in this helpful text.

The chart on page nine shows how beliefs (via focus, behaviors and character) lead to outcomes and how inward reflection (via passion, positive attitude and healthy behaviors, among other things) leads eventually to those desired outcomes.

In the text that follows, everything is explained clearly, in simple terms that anyone should be able to understand. Questions make the text highly interactive, like a workbook.

There is just one downside, so to speak, of this remarkable new book: By providing us with an effective user's manual for life, it removes all excuses for any of us for being anything other than passionate, motivated and successful!

"Rock Solid" Approach to Life-Focusing

Most of us live according to the clock instead of the compass. Quite honestly, we find ourselves falling hopelessly behind and helplessly frustrated. Dr. Tyree provides us with a compass in the form of this book. He writes with a sense of purpose and passion. His model for evaluating, determining, and launching one's "life focus" is both insightful and practical. Drawing from decades of personal and professional success, together with seasons of pain, he shares his time-tested wisdom.

The book begins where every good book should--it develops a rock-solid foundation. Greg helps his readers evaluate "who they are to be" as the ultimate motivation for "what they are to do". That foundation becomes fertile soil for developing a contented and satisfying life.

"My own life focus" includes helpful questions and and important strategies to aid the reader in beginning real life change. As I read the book, I was reminded of Proverbs 14:8, "The wisdom of the prudent is to discern his way, but the folly of fools is deceiving". The prudent would do well to use this book as a tool for discerning his way!

Simply Stated

Isn't the whole reason we resist growth because it is difficult to comprehend what we are supposed to do? My Own Life Focus: Complete (including the book and the workbook) is thorough and simply stated so that some of the deeper questions of life are gentle to digest, but effective. It is a great tool to contemplate where your life is headed and if you are doing your part to get where you want to be!

Exhaustive Treatment of Soulwinning

How to Lead Someone to Christ, as its title forthrightly asserts, is a manual, a blueprint based on experience as well as scholarship, a how-to book for all who take to heart Christ's Great Commission (Matthew 28:9-20).

Rev. Jim Treffinger

Based on a Biblical Foundation

Regarding What the Bible Really Says about Baptism: You will certainly appreciate the author's candid writing accompanied by his careful style that will lead any thinking Christian who has yet to be baptized to say “What hinders me from being baptized?”  Dr.
